If you sell clothing online, one of the first packing decisions is whether to ship in a courier bag or a box. Both work, but they suit different products and budgets. This guide compares the two and helps you choose for each type of order.
Courier bag vs box at a glance
| Courier bag | Box (mailer or carton) | |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | Very light, keeps courier charges low | Heavier, adds to shipping weight |
| Size | Takes the shape of the product, so volumetric weight stays low | Fixed size; an oversized box raises volumetric weight |
| Protection | Protects from dust, water and tampering, not from crushing | Rigid, protects against crushing and stacking |
| Unboxing | Simple and practical | Neater presentation, good for gifting and premium brands |
| Storage | Takes very little space | Supplied flat, but needs more space |
| Cost per order | Lower | Higher |
When a courier bag is the better choice
- T-shirts, kurtas, sarees, leggings, nightwear and other folded clothing.
- Bedsheets, towels and soft furnishings.
- Soft accessories such as scarves, socks and caps.
- Any order where keeping courier charges low matters more than presentation.
Use a tamper proof bag with a strong peel and seal strip, so the customer can see if the parcel was opened in transit. An opaque bag also keeps the contents private. Our 55 micron courier bags come in plain POD versions with an invoice pocket and in versions printed for Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho sellers.
When a box is the better choice
- Shoes, bags with structure, belts with metal buckles and items that can be crushed or bent.
- Clothing sent with something fragile, such as a perfume or a glass item.
- Gift orders, festive hampers and premium brands where the unboxing matters.
- Multi-item orders that would make a bag bulky and shapeless.
Mailer boxes fold and lock without tape and look neat when opened, which makes them popular with D2C clothing brands. For heavier or mixed orders, a 3 ply carton is usually enough.
Choosing the right courier bag size
Measure the folded product, then add about 1 to 2 inches to the width and enough length to cover the item plus the seal flap. A bag that is too big lets the product slide around and can raise the courier’s size charge; one that is too small strains the seal. Our courier bag size chart lists common sizes from 6×8 inch upwards with the items each one usually fits.
Packing tips for clothing
- Fold neatly and put the item in a thin polybag first if it is light coloured or delicate.
- Press out extra air before sealing a courier bag so the parcel stays flat.
- Stick the shipping label on a flat area of the bag, away from the seal strip.
- For boxes, fill empty space with shredded paper so the clothing does not shift.

Do you deliver across India?
Yes. Delivery is free across India and every order comes with a GST invoice. New sellers can start with a seller starter kit.
